Chucho Valdés est un pianiste de jazz cubain. Il est le fils de Bebo Valdés, pianiste et compositeur cubain. Son œuvre mêle jazz, musique cubaine et musique classique. Comme son père, il est associé au courant du jazz afro-cubain et fut qualifié de « Mozart cubain ».
En activité depuis plus de cinquante ans, le légendaire pianiste cubain Chucho Valdés est l’un des artisans majeurs de la fusion musicale entre Cuba et l’Afrique. Son projet Jazz Bata en offre une flamboyante illustration. Désormais figure tutélaire de la culture musicale cubaine, cet ogre sensible au piano cultivé ne peut se permettre le moindre écart par rapport à la qualité des groupes qu’il nous a proposés depuis les riches heures d’Irakere. Comme si l’abattage rythmique de son imposante main gauche ne suffisait pas à fixer les enjeux, Chucho Valdés démultiplie avec son nouveau groupe les possibilités offertes par l’extraordinaire richesse des percussions de la Caraïbe, région q...
